16 Days of Activism For No Violence Against Women And Children: advancing collective action to end GBVF

Government calls on all citizens to join hands in the fight against Gender-based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) as the nation marks 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children. The campaign runs from 25 November to 10 December, under the theme, “30 Years of Advancing Collective Action to End Violence Against Women and Children”. 

South Africa calls for journalists to enter the 2025 SADC Media Awards Competition

The South African journalists/media are invited to submit their entries for the 2025 SADC Media Awards competition.

The SADC Media Awards competition is open to journalists from the SADC Member States. 

Government welcomes the latest national and provincial audit outcomes from the Auditor-General (AG) of South Africa, which reveal a remarkable leap in the number of clean audits across national and provincial government departments. These results show progress that has been made in strengthening financial and performance management in these two spheres of government.

The Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) in partnership with South African Weather Service will host a roundtable discussion on extreme weather patterns focusing on Early Warnings For All (EW4All) to assist citizens to prepare timeously for adverse weather conditions.

As President of the G20, South Africa will host the first set of meetings of the grouping in December 2024 in Gauteng. The 1st Sherpas, Finance Deputies, and Central Bank Governors meetings will take place in Sandton, Johannesburg, from 09 – 12 December 2024. The meetings will take place under the theme: “Solidarity, Equality and Sustainability”. Only bona fide media practitioners may apply for media accreditation.

The National Launch of 16 Days of Activism for no Violence Against Women and Children will take place on the 25th of November 2024 at the Rustenburg Local Municipality, in the North West Province under the theme “30 Years of advancing collective action to end violence against women and children’’, the sub-theme for the campaign is “Harnessing technology and innovation to combat Gender-Based Violence and accelerate a gender inclusive digital economy”.

Government welcomes the latest data from Statistics South Africa (Stats SA), which shows a sharp decline in consumer price inflation (CPI) to 2.8% in October 2024, down from 3.8% recorded in September 2024. This marks the lowest inflation rate since June 2020, when the country experienced a rate of 2.2% during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Government welcomes the response by various stakeholders to implement the interventions to address the current outbreak of foodborne illnesses and illicit trade some of which have led to the unfortunate fatalities of children and hospitalisation of some especially in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo and Free State.
