Government sends its deepest condolences to the family of anti-apartheid activist and internationally renowned theologian, Father Albert Nolan. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday.

Father Nolan was a dedicated South African Catholic priest, who challenged religious views and reasons for apartheid to exist. His life was dedicated to the struggle for democracy and the attainment of human rights in South Africa.

Government commemorates Black Wednesday

Today, government joins the South African media industry in commemorating the 45th anniversary of Black Wednesday, also marked as National Press Freedom Day. This day serves as a reminder of how far the South African media has come and also affords us an opportunity to reflect on media freedom.

Members of the media who have successfully applied for accreditation to cover the Presidential Imbizo in Upington, Northern Cape Province are advised to collect accreditation cards as follows:

Dates: 18 to 20 October 2022
Time: 09h00 - 18h00
Venue: Tol Speelman Civic Centre, Upington

NB: Members of the media are advised to bring along their Press cards and ID or Passport when collecting accreditation cards. In addition, each applicant is required to personally collect the accreditation at the stated venue.

The Inter-Ministerial Task Team on the certificate handover will visit Moses Mabhida Stadium 

On the 17th October 2022, the   Inter-Ministerial Task Team (IMTT) coordinating the ceremony to handover a certificate of recognition to King Misuzulu ka Zwelithini will visit the Moses Mabhida Stadium. 

The certificate handover ceremony is  scheduled for 29 October 2022.

Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) calls on members of the media who wish to cover the upcoming Presidential Imbizo in Upington to apply for accreditation. The Imbizo will take place on Friday, 21 October 2022 at Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs Stadium in Upington, Northern Cape Province.

Webinar on food security and subsistence farming

Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) will host a webinar on food security and subsistence farming in partnership with the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development, AgriSA and Statistics South Africa

The discussion in the webinar will be on how subsistence farming can sustain food security and alleviate poverty within the context of a challenging economic climate of an increase in the cost of living.

Government will close the Integrated Public Service Month by hosting a one-stop exhibition of services rendered by various government departments and entities on Friday, 30 September 2022 in Diepsloot at Chuma Mall.  

In addition to the exhibitions, departments and agencies such as Health, Road Accident Fund, South African Social Security Agency and Home Affairs will render public services onsite.
