Government celebrates World Radio Day
Today (13 February 2024), Government joins the global community in celebrating World Radio Day under the theme, "Radio: A Century Informing, Entertaining, and Educating”. This year’s theme underscores the rich history and diverse contribution of radio to our society.
South Africa calls for journalists to enter the 2024 SADC Media Awards Competition
The Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) invites members of the media to cover a photo-opportunity and door-stop at the start of the two-day Cabinet Lekgotla taking from 1-2 February 2024.
Media are further advised that the Minister in the Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni will also host a door-stop.

Government urges all eligible voters to register for the upcoming provincial and national election. The Electoral Commission of South Africa will hold its second voter registration weekend on the 3rd and 4th of February 2024 to allow all eligible voters to register to vote for the upcoming 2024 National General Elections.
Government Communications and Information Systems (GCIS) invites members of the media wishing to cover the Presidential Welisizwe Rural Bridges Handover on 31 January 2024 to apply for accreditation.
The Welisizwe Rural Bridges are part of the rural infrastructure investments, announced by His Excellency President Ramaphosa, in the 2023 State of the Nation Address.
The handover will take place at Ngilanyoni Sports Ground, Ward 7, Mkhambathini Local Municipality, uMgungundlovu District in KwaZulu-Natal.
Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) conveys a message of condolence to the friends and family of Ms. Octavia Hlungwani. Ms. Hlungwani passed away on Wednesday, 10 January 2023 after a short illness.
The GCIS enjoyed a close working relationship with Octavia both in her capacity as the Association of Independent Publishers Board Member and as a community media journalist. She was progressive in her thinking as a journalist and always appreciated the collaborative relationship between the media and government.
Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) will launch a 13 episode Advertiser Funded Programme (AFP) called Citizens Connect on SABC 2 on, Thursday, 18 January 2024 at 20h30. This collaboration with SABC 2 is a testament to government’s commitment to reaching a diverse audience and delivering impactful content.
Citizens Connect is a social reality program featuring government content, re-enactments and discussions on matters relating Gender Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF), Anti-Corruption and Economic Recovery and Reconstruction Plan (ERRP).
The South African media is invited to submit their entries for the 2024 SADC Media Awards competition in the four categories namely; Photo, Print, Television and Radio Journalism. The SADC Media Awards are open to journalists from the SADC Member States. The SADC Media Awards were established in 1996 to recognise best media work in disseminating information on SADC to support the process of regional co-operation and integration in the region.
Minister in the Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni accompanied by the Deputy Minister in the Presidency ,Ms Nomasonto Motaung, Members of the Executive Council in Mpumalanga and Media Development and Diversity Agency’s (MDDA) Board Chairperson Professor Hlengani Mathebula will on Tuesday 9 January 2024, lead the official unveiling of state-of-the-art studios at Kanyamazane FM in Mpumalanga.
The unveiling forms part of the MDDA’s ongoing work to support the development and diversity of community and small commercial media.
