Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) remains one of the most pervasive human rights violations affecting women and children in South Africa. Despite existing legislation and national strategies, including the National Strategic Plan (NSP) on GBVF, victims continue to experience delays in accessing justice, poor service integration, and a lack of trauma-informed support. A collective national response is required to address institutional inefficiencies and restore public confidence.

This ultimately enables the work of government to continue unabated. The South African government remains committed to a transparent and accountable budget process that aligns spending with national priorities, addresses socio-economic challenges, and ensures fiscal sustainability.
Government strongly condemns the shootout between illegal miners and the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Riverlea, Johannesburg, which has claimed at least one life. A 59-year-old man was killed after he was allegedly caught in the crossfire as police exchanged gunfire with three suspects. Government extends its heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased.
