The official declaration by the IEC of the final results of the 2019 national and provincial elections paves the way for the sixth democratic administration to begin its work.
We congratulate the IEC for a job well done, and for their handling of disputes and various issues that arose. We are satisfied that the IEC addressed these issues and that they are in no way detracted from the success and credibility of the elections.

Government calls on all South Africans, especially young and first-time voters, to exercise their democratic right to vote. Today, 8 May 2019 is a public holiday and government appeals to employers to allow employees time off so that they can vote.
The 26,7 million people who have registered to vote on the 08 May national and provincial elections will be able to cast their votes at one of the 22 924 voting stations country wide.

Government welcomes and congratulates Newzroom Afrika, a 24-hour news channel, which was launched on MultiChoice's DStv satellite pay-tv platform today.
Government is encouraged by the growing number of 24-hour news channels in the country, which further strengthens media diversity. The introduction of Newsroom Afrika will further shape public discourse on pertinent matters affecting our nation.
Members of the media wishing to cover the 2019 Presidential Inauguration ceremony are advised that the closing date for accreditation applications has been extended to midnight on Sunday, 28 April 2019. Thereafter no new applications will be accepted.
Applications for accreditation are to be submitted by completing the online registration form under the link: https://www.gcis.gov.za/content/media-registration.
