POST CABINET MEDIA BRIEFING

The Minister in The Presidency responsible for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Mr Jeff Radebe, will address members of the media on the outcomes of the Cabinet meeting held in Cape Town today. He will be joined by both the Minister and Deputy Minister for Public Works, Messrs Thulas Nxesi and Jeremy Cronin.

To mark the 30th anniversary of the Vaal Uprising, the Sedibeng District, Emfuleni, Lesedi and Midvaal Municipalities will be spearheading the 30th Anniversary Commemorations of the historic 3rd September 1984 Uprising in the Vaal under the theme 'Reclaiming and Rebuilding the Historical Legacy of the Vaal'”. The purpose is to underline the Vaal’s unique role in the history of South Africa’s struggle for liberation and democracy.

Government wishes to advise the members of the media about the planned media briefings scheduled for the coming week of 01 – 07 September 2014.
On Monday, 01 September the Minister of Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa, will brief the media on the launch of Heritage Month under the theme “Celebrating 20 Years of Democracy: Tell your story that moves South Africa Forward! The launch will take place at 12:00pm at Freedom Park, Pretoria.

As part of celebrating 20 Years of Freedom and Democracy in South Africa; the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) is initiating a Tell Your Story Campaign.
The campaign is a collaboration with a range of partners with a view to share our unique stories as a nation, record our history and ultimately build social cohesion and nationhood.

Government has noted with concern a mischievous report published in the Sunday Times that insinuated the State Security Agency has become an employment agency for the children of Ministers and other high-profile officials due to political nepotism. Government views this report as speculative, subjective, and creates an impression that children of ministers and other officials should be exempt from pursuing a career in the public service.

On Tuesday, 26 August 2014, the Statistician-General, Pali Lehohla will brief the media on Gross Domestic Product (GDP) 2nd Quarter of 2014. The media briefing will take place at the Tshedimosetso House, GCIS in Pretoria at 11:00am.

Government has noted with grave concern the disruptions which have unfolded in Parliament yesterday and which tantamount to bring the high institution into disrepute. Whilst government encourages a continuous healthy and robust democracy, which includes questioning the executives of the country, it must be exercised in a dignified manner.

Cabinet commends the launch of another Sexual Offences Court in Bethlehem, Free State by Minister Michael Masutha. This forms part of government’s intervention programme in the fight against sexual violence against women, children and the vulnerable groups.
