Ministers of the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster (JCPS), will visit election hotspots in the Western Cape in a bid to ensure stability ahead of the elections. Minister of Police, Nathi Mthethwa will lead the delegation.
The places identified are Manenberg, Hanover Park and Tafelsig. This is the second of a series of visits the ministers are conducting in different provinces.

The JCPS Cluster led by Minister of Police, Nathi Mthethwa on Thursday, 17 April 2014 visited the election hotspots in KwaZulu-Natal.
The visit is part of efforts to bring peace and stability to areas affected by crime and violent protests. The committee visited KwaMashu township and C-section in Wembezi, Escourt. This is the first in a series of visits across the country to address any challenges that may arise ahead of the elections.

Government notes the United Nations Office on Drug and Crime’s latest report, Global Study on Homicide 2013, which is consistent with the South African Police Services crime studies. The UN report hails South Africa's "encouraging trend" in halving the murder rate from 64.5 per 100 000 in 1995 to 31 in 2012.

Sanlam and the Media Development and Diversity Agency (MDDA) have announced that they received a record 750 entries for the 2013 MDDA-Sanlam Local Media Awards since the joint awards were established four years ago. Entries closed on 14 February 2014. For the 2012 Awards, 540 entries were received.

Government welcomes the closure of Petite Bumper Daycare centre in Rosettenville, by the Department of Social Development and law enforcement agencies in Gauteng. This after the owner allegedly bound a toddler and gagged her with tape. It is also alleged that the owner committed this heinous abuse in order to quietly watch television.
