Ladies and gentlemen of the media
Welcome to the technical briefing to prepare for the funeral ceremony of Mama Winnie Mandela who passed away, on the 2nd April 2018.
President Ramaphosa has accorded Mama Winnie a Special Official Funeral Category 1 status which includes elements of military honors.
The funeral will take place tomorrow, Saturday, 14th April 2018. The programme is scheduled to commence at 09h00.

Today South Africans bid a final farewell to the Mother of the Nation in a heartfelt and solemn service at the Special Official Funeral that was held at Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg.
Mama Winnie was laid to rest with the Madikizela and Mandela family, Heads of State and Government, eminent persons from around the world and leaders of various organisations in attendance.

Government thanks South Africans for participating in the official memorial service at the Orlando Stadium in remembering and celebrating the life of struggle stalwart Winnie Madikizela-Mandela. The decorum shown during the memorial service and the vibrant manner in which Mama Winnie Madikzela-Mandela was honoured is a true reflection of the love for the “Mother of our Nation”.

Park- and ride facility for Winnie Madikizela-Mandela memorial
Government reminds mourners who are attending the memorial services for struggle stalwart Winnie Madikizela-Mandela this morning to make use of the park-and-ride facilities from the Nasrec Expo Centre.
The park-and-ride facilities are accessible at Nasrec Expo Centre 1 and Nasrec Expo Centre 2. Buses are available only at these two pick up points to seamlessly move people to the Orlando stadium.
