President Jacob Zuma has declared a Special Official Funeral for the struggle stalwart and former Member of Parliament, Hermanus Loots who passed away on Monday, 25 January 2016.

Government will today, Wednesday, 03 February 2016 hold an Official Memorial Service in honour of the struggle stalwart and former Member of Parliament, Hermanus Loots who passed away on Monday, 25 January 2016.
Minister of Human Settlements, Lindiwe Sisulu will deliver a key note address at the official memorial service of Hermanus Loots.
Loots, who was famously known as James Stuart, served as a Member of Parliament in the first democratic parliament from 1994 to 1999 following the first democratic elections in 1994.
Cabinet Lekgotla photo opportunity and remarks: 2 Feb

Cabinet will hold its Lekgotla from the 02 to the 06 of February 2016 at Sefako Makgatho Presidential Guesthouse in Pretoria.
Members of the media will be allowed a brief opportunity to take pictures of Cabinet members. This will be followed by an equally brief engagement with the Minister in the Presidency responsible for Performance, Monitoring and Evaluation, Mr Jeff Radebe.

Government urges communities to be vigilant and protect children

Government expresses great sadness at the tragic death of seven children in two separate incidents in the country this week. According to media reports, five of the children suffocated whilst playing in a freezer in Kakamas in Northern Cape and two after suffering from extreme heat when they were trapped inside an abandoned car in Clairemont in KwaZulu-Natal.

1.1. Cabinet met to deliberate on the state of the economy and budget related matters. Cabinet noted a number of factors impacting on the economy of the country.
The global outlook has deteriorated in recent months. Slower global growth reflects, in particular, weaker performance and higher risks in several important developing countries, including China.

Members of the media are invited to submit their entries for the 2016 SADC Media Awards Competition and the closing date for is 29 February 2016.
The SADC Media Awards were established in 1996 following a decision by the Council of Ministers to establish a sector that deals with matters relating to amongst others, information, culture and sport. These awards serve as part of ensuring a link, coordination and synchronisation between formal structures of SADC governments, civil society, academia, labour and the media.
