Ministerial government vehicles purchase aligned to rules
Government has noted media reports about the purchasing of vehicles for Ministers and their deputies which creates a perception that government is wasteful, despite government’s efforts on various occasions to put the expenditure on road transport into perspective.

President Jacob Zuma has reconstituted the Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) on Information and Publicity.
The IMC is responsible for championing and coordinating the work of government with regards to communicating government programmes.
The IMC will now be called the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Communication and will be chaired by the President assisted by the Minister of Communications who will be responsible for the overall coordination of the communication function as per her portfolio.

The Department of Communications will host the Portfolio Committee on Communications at Tshedimosetso House, the seat of Government communication and home to the GCIS on Tuesday, 28 March 2017.
The Committee will be conducting an oversight visit to the Department of Communications and its entities from 28 – 31 March 2017.
The Portfolio Committee will engage with members of the executive, staff and unions.

Minister of Communications, Faith Muthambi, condemns the violence against women as reported in the media. Government is appalled and shocked by reports of horrific and unacceptable acts of violence and sexual assault faced by two women whilst commuting in taxis in Johannesburg. Further to this, women in Delft and Mthatha have been victims of taxi violence. We must work together to ensure that the public transport system is a safe environment for women who depend on this vital infrastructure to participate in the economy.

Government condemns the resurgence of racist posts on Twitter and Facebook which deliberately undermine the gains made towards social cohesion, nation building and strengthening democracy. Government is of the view that this malicious and offensive content erodes the values of our Constitution and incites social tensions in communities.

The Justice, Crime Prevention and Security (JCPS) Cluster welcomes the Gauteng High Court’s land marking ruling in the case against Eke Ugochukwu. He was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment on charges of trafficking a 15-year-old girl and forcing her into prostitution in Rosettenville two years ago.
Government welcomes the Constitutional Court’s ruling that allows Cash Paymaster Services to continue paying social grants to eligible beneficiaries for another 12 months.
Minister in the Presidency, Jeff Radebe, expressed Government’s appreciation to the apex court. He said: “The South African government cares for its people and today’s ruling is indicative of a progressive democratic nation. Government accepts unconditionally the judgement and directives of the Constitutional Court.”

Play your part by raising awareness and promoting human rights
In this month of March, Government calls on South Africans to play their part in raising awareness and promoting basic human rights, in their communities, workplaces, government institutions and places of worship in line with the theme: The year of OR Tambo: Unity in Action in Advancing Human Rights.
