In response to media enquiries regarding access to the Parliamentary Media Briefings, GCIS would like to affirm that these briefings are arranged for the media and members of the Diplomatic Corps.

The Media Briefing Week is an opportunity for Government to explain its programme of action for the year, as outlined in the President's State of the Nation Address, to the media and the diplomatic community and for the media to obtain clarity from the executive on the issues involved.

Briefing in preparation for parliamentary address on TRC recommendations: 15 April

Launch of Pocket Guide to SA 2003: 6 June

The Minister of Public Service and Administration, Ms Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi, will deliver a keynote address at the launch of the Pocket Guide to South Africa 2003 in Mamelodi on 6 June 2003 at 12h30.

The first edition of this quick-fact, easy-to-read publication is largely based on information contained in the South Africa Yearbook 2002/03, published by the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS).

Presidential Press Corps accreditation


26 June 2003

Members of the Presidential Press Corps are requested to submit two passport photos for accreditation purposes. The accreditation is being finalised and the cards will be available as soon as the process has been completed. As part of the process, security clearance is underway for members who have already submitted their forms. Members who have not yet submitted their forms are advised to do so urgently in order to speed up this process.

Media accreditation for inauguration of new president


1 April 2004

South Africa will be inagaurating its new president following the third democratic general elections on 14 April 2004. The inagauration ceremony will be held at the Union Buildings on 27 April 2004 (Freedom Day). On the same day South Africa will be celebrating ten years of freedom brought about by the first democratic elections held in 1994.
