Following a report in the Mail&Guardian today, Ministers of the security cluster and the Minister of Public Works met with the Public Protector, on the alleged leak of a purported provisional report on the Nkandla project. In the meeting, Advocate Thuli Madonsela committed herself to following the proper process of handling such reports.

Government has noted unbecoming reportage from some media houses that deceive the public and create a negative perception regarding comments made at yesterday’s briefing by the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security (JCPS) Cluster Ministers over President Jacob Zuma’s Nkandla home.

Government notes the Public Protector’s outline on how her office will deal with the interim report and comments submitted by the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security (JCPS) cluster on the security upgrades at Nkandla.
The JCPS Cluster Ministers reaffirms government’s respect and recognition of the role and Office of the Public Protector and commit to taking the process further in a constructive manner and in the interest of the public and national security.

The 16 Days Activism Campaign for No Violence against Women and Children is an annual awareness raising campaign observed globally. The purpose of the campaign is to address policy and legal issues; as well as campaign for the protection of survivors of violence and to call for the elimination of all forms of gender based violence.
President Jacob Zuma has this morning, 18 November 2013, visited former President Nelson Mandela at home in Houghton, where he continues to recover.
The health of the former President remains much the same as it was when President Zuma last visited him, which is stable but critical while Madiba continues to respond to treatment.

The Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster today, Friday 15th November 2013 submitted the security comments relating to the Public Protector’s provisional report on the Nkandla upgrade.

Government has noted recent media reports pertaining to its decision to approach the courts to seek relief regarding its request for extension of the period within which to submit its response to the Public Protector’s provisional report on the security upgrades at the Nkandla residence of the President.
The Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Ministers decided to approach the court after the Public Protector did not grant the requested extension, which has always been regarded as reasonable.
