Minister of Communications Ms Faith Muthambi hereby calls for nominations of members of the South African Broadcast Production Advisory Body.

The Minister of Communications (“the Minister”) is empowered by section 38 of the Broadcasting Act, 4 of 1999 to establish the South African Broadcast Production Advisory Body to advise the Minister on how the development, production and display of local television and radio content can be supported.

Minister of Communications, Faith Muthambi will on 7 November 2014 embark on a ministerial outreach visit to Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal province. The Minister will host a post presidential Imbizo reflection with councilors from Embali Township, ward 14 in Pietermaritzburg, a ward she adopted during the Presidential Imbizo held on September 30th. The minister will engage with provincial and local communicators and conclude the day with a community media Imbizo.

1.1. Cabinet approved the 16 Days of Activism Campaign under the theme “Count Me In: Together Moving a Non-Violent South Africa forward”.

This year (2014) marks the 16th anniversary of this campaign which aims to continue generating awareness on the protection of women and children with more focus on mobilizing men and partnering with them to also assist in the fight against this scourge of violence on women and children.

Almost two months since building collapse tragedy

Our nation will, within the next few days, mark two months since the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) guesthouse building collapse on 12 September 2014. This incident remains one of the worst tragedies in the history of our country since 1994.

It is certainly heart-breaking that the families of the eighty-one (81) South Africans presumed dead continue to wait for their mortal remains to be returned home.

Government dismisses misleading repeated reports by the media which imply that the reconfigured executive will cost taxpayers an additional R66 million a year. According to the reports this figure emanates from the Medium Term Budget Statement.

Government wishes to advise members of the media about planned media briefings scheduled for the week of 3to 9 November 2014. 

On Monday, 3 November at 09:00am, Minister of Social Development, Bathabile Dlamini will brief the media during the launch of the National Disability Rights Awareness Month. The briefing will be held at Tshedimosetso House (DOC), Pretoria with a link up to Imbizo Media Centre, Cape Town.
