The Department of Communications condemns in the strongest terms the decision by the Western Cape Provincial government not to renew subscriptions to the Cape Times newspaper.
This decision is not in the interest of South Africa and will only serve to weaken media freedom. It is particularly troubling given our long and painful history of media censorship and media repression.

Members of the media are requested to apply for accreditation to the official memorial service and Special Official Funeral of the late Minister of Public Service and Administration, Collins Chabane.
All media wishing to cover both the memorial service that will take place on Thursday and the funeral on Saturday are requested to complete the registration form attached.
The deadline for the submission of details is tomorrow, Wednesday 18 of March 2015 at 08h30am.

Members of the media wishing to cover the reburial of Mr JB Marks are requested to submit their details for accreditation by completing the attached form and email it to Ishmael@doc.gov.za.
The deadline for the submission of details is 15h00 on Wednesday, 18th March 2015.
Journalists who were accredited to cover the reburial of Mr Moses Kotane last week do not need to re-apply.

The Department of Communications (DoC) is set to publish the final Broadcasting Digital Migration (BDM) policy in the Government Gazette next week.
DoC management presented the country’s state of readiness to migrate from analogue to Digital Broadcasting to a Joint Portfolio Committee on Communication and Telecommunications and Postal Services in Parliament on Tuesday.

Members of the media whose accreditation applications have been approved are requested to collect their accreditations between 12h00 Thursday, 12 March and 08h00 Saturday,14 March 2015. The venue is Pella Tribal Administration Office near the Post Office.

The Department of Communications condemns the mugging of SABC’s contributing editor Vuyo Mvoko and the SABC team outside Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg. The incident happened on Tuesday night just as Mvoko was about to cross live to the news studio during prime time.
Minister Faith Muthambi said, “This incident and other similar criminal activities that occur across the country impact negatively on individuals and society as a whole as well as the developmental efforts of South Africa.
Members of the media are advised that the accreditation deadline for the reburial of Moses Kotane and JB Marks has been extended to 12h00 on Wednesday, 11 March 2015.
The accreditation process is live accreditation (photographs of applicants will be taken). Each member of the media will be required to PERSONALLY collect the accreditation card between the 12th and the 14th of March 2015 at Pella Traditional House.

On Tuesday, 10 March at 09:00am, Minister of Environmental Affairs Edna Molewa will host a media briefing on the second day of the National Waste Management Summit starting from 09-11 March 2015. The summit will provide a platform for robust and constructive high level and technical engagements on waste management priorities for the country. The briefing will be held at Ingwenyama Conference and Sports Resort, White River, Mpumalanga.
