Government values the swift process by the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) in reviewing the selective reopener for the third multi-year price determination for the period 1 July 2015 to 31 March 2016 that was submitted by Eskom.

Government has decided to appeal the recent High Court (Gauteng) Judgement on the matter relating to President of Sudan Omar Al-Bashir. The reasons for the appeal will be contained in the affidavit that will be submitted within the prescribed due date.

1. Implementation of Key Government Programmes
1.1. Cabinet welcomed the resolutions adopted at the 25th African Union (AU) Summit which places Africa on a new path of development and growth that will enable the continent to take its rightful place in global affairs.
Resolutions included a united and functioning single military by the end of the year. Leaders pledged to accelerate the operationalisation of the African Standby Force (ASF).

Government reiterates its view, also conveyed by President Jacob Zuma yesterday, that all the deaths that occurred in Marikana in August 2012 should be equally condemned as all are equally unacceptable.
The President has said it before that the deaths of the 10 persons who were killed before the tragic killing of 34 people in Marikana should also be condemned, including the killings that took place even after the deaths of the 34.

Government has noted reports in the media claiming that security cluster ministers held a secret meeting to protect and give safe passage to Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir. The report relies on nameless and faceless sources to make these allegations.

Government notes the judgment of the North Gauteng High Court on the matter regarding Sudanese President Omar Al Bashir. As indicated in court, government will enquire the circumstances under which President Al Bashir left the country. We will also comply with the court order relating to submission of an affidavit outlining these circumstances. We will however await written reasons of the judgment as indicated by the court.

Recent claims asserting that government has not responded to allegations of construction collusion with regard to road improvements done ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, are incorrect.
The matter has in fact been handled by the Competition Tribunal – a statutory body – and the findings have been made public.
The Competition Tribunal last year fined 15 construction companies a combined R1.46-billion after the investigation into collusion. This money has already been paid to government.
