Welcome to a briefing by the International Cooperation, Trade and Security (ICTS) Cluster to further expand on the announcements made by President during the State of the Nation Address (SoNA).

The President has declared this year the Oliver Reginald Tambo year. During this period, the country will be celebrating the legacy of this internationalist. OR Tambo would have celebrated 100 years of age this year.

The International Cooperation, Trade and Security Cluster chaired by Minister Edna Molewa will brief media on the implementation of the Cluster programme of action for the year, following the 2017 State of the Nation Address. Minister Molewa will be supported by the Co-Chairperson Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane and members of the Cluster.

The briefing will also outline progress that has been made and future plans to achieve the National Development Plan Vision 2030.

Government congratulates all learners on their first day of school

Government congratulates all learners, especially Grade One’s, on their first day of school for the 2017 academic year. For Grade One learners the first schooling day signifies the next chapter in their lives and government encourages all learners to remain focused on their studies in order to have a better future.

Overall, the first day of the academic calendar went well with limited challenges across the country. Government leadership was present at several schools to offer support and guidance and to motivate the learners.

Government saddened by death of children in KwaZulu-Natal

11 January 2017

Government is deeply saddened by reports of the death of four children after a bus and minibus taxi collided in Ntuzuma, KwaZulu-Natal this morning. According to media reports, 13 people were injured in the incident.

Acting GCIS Director-General, Donald Liphoko said; “Government conveys its deepest condolences to the bereaved families. We are saddened by the unfortunate loss of lives in this tragic incident. We wish all injured a speedy recovery.”

Government congratulates the matric class of 2016

Government congratulates all the Grade 12 learners who sat for the 2016 National Senior Certificate Examinations, or Matric examinations, across South Africa.

The results released by the Minister of Basic Education, Ms Angie Motshekga, are indeed encouraging and highlight the strides we have made in providing quality education to all South Africans.
