1.1. Cabinet calls on all sectors of South Africa to rally behind government-led initiatives to boost economic growth following the release of growth figures showing our economy contracted by zero point 7 per cent in the second quarter from a revised -2.6 percent in the first quarter.

On the 15th of August 2018, Mrs Zondeni Veronica Sobukwe passed away at the age of 91 in Graaff—Reinet. President Ramaphosa thereafter declared that Mma Sobukwe will be accorded a Special Official Funeral Category 2. This category is reserved for distinguished persons specifically designated by the President of South Africa on request by the Premier of a province.

Government has noted with concern the escalating incidences of unlawful raids in spaza shops conducted by communities in some parts of the country. Government wants to reiterate that such activities are unlawful and criminal in nature.

1.1. The recent economic developments in Turkey have led to a large depreciation of emerging market currencies, including the South African Rand.
The Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) for the Revitalisation of Distressed Mining Towns and Labour Sending Areas welcomes the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) Investigative Hearing Report on the Underlying Socio-economic Challenges of Mining-affected Communities in South Africa.
Government strongly condemns the racial comments articulated by Adam Catzavelos, in a video that went viral on social media. His racist comments cannot be justified and display one of the most despicable form of racism. Government urges law enforcement agencies to take action against Mr Catzavelos.
