Confederations Cup success reaffirms South Africa's readiness for the 2010 FIFA World Cup

The Government of the Republic of South Africa congratulates all those involved in making the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup a resounding success.

In particular, government congratulates the 2010 FIFA Organising Committee and the broader FIFA family, all the teams that took part in the tournament, the volunteers, service providers, officials and the fans for contributing towards the success of the tournament.

The preparations for the inauguration of the incoming President of the Republic are proceeding according to plan and about 5 000 dignitaries are expected to attend the ceremony which will take place at the Union Buildings. About 30 000 people are expected to attend and witness the inauguration at the South Lawns of the Union Buildings, Pretoria.

JCPS Cluster DGs visit Mpumalanga

We have come to Mpumalanga to receive reports from our provincial structures, get first hand experience of the challenges they face in the implementation of government programmes as well as note the successes they have obtained. Decision on Kruger National Park land claims


28 January 2009

Cabinet has approved the use of equitable redress as the only option for the settlement of outstanding land claims in the Kruger National Park (KNP). The Directors-General of the departments of Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEAT) and Land Affairs (DLA) jointly informed the affected community leaders of the claimants in Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces on 23 January 2009 of the cabinet decision taken on 3 December 2008.

Government and SANEF meeting of 1 November


1 November 2008

A Government delegation led by President Kgalema Motlanthe today met a delegation from the South African National Editors Forum (SANEF) in Pretoria to discuss legislation affecting the media.

The SANEF delegation was led by its Chairperson, Jovial Rantao.

President Motlanthe opened the meeting by affirming the important role of media in our society and committing government to work closely with SANEF to resolve any differences that may arise.

Outcomes of National Gender Machinery (NGM) workshop

The Minister in The Presidency, Minister Tshabalala-Msimang, convened a high-level National Gender Machinery meeting, particularly within the context of the national anti-poverty strategy, on 25-26 October 2008 in Pretoria, South Africa.

The objective of this meeting was to further strengthen and encourage support and co-ordinated action for women’s empowerment and gender equality.
