Government and the Opposition to Urban Tolling Alliance (OUTA) will continue consultations on the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project (GFIP) with a view to finding a solution.

This emerged from a meeting on Thursday, 21 June 2012, between the Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) on the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project (GFIP) - led by Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe - and the Opposition to Urban Tolling Alliance (OUTA) led by Chairperson Wayne Duvenage.

The Inter-Ministerial Committee on the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project (GFIP), which is chaired by Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe, will meet with Opposition to Urban Tolling Alliance (OUTA) as part of stakeholder consultations on the GFIP.

Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe on Tuesday, 19 June 2012, led a government delegation in a meeting with the Road Freight Association (RFA) and the Southern African Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (SAVRALA). This formed part of government’s commitment to engage key stakeholders on the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project (GFIP).

Motlanthe, will be holding consultation meetings with various stakeholders.  This is a follow up on the commitment made by the Deputy President.

Government and Business Unity South Africa (BUSA) agree on the principles underlying the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project (GFIP) but will continue consultation on the detail of implementation.

BUSA welcomed the formation of the government Inter-Ministerial Committee on the GFIP and urged that there should be in-depth consultations with all stakeholders.

This emerged from a meeting on Friday, 15 June 2012, between government - led by Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe - and Business Unity South Africa (BUSA).
