Government wishes to advise the members of the media about the planned media briefings scheduled for the week of 22 – 28 September 2014.

On Monday, 22nd of September at 07:00, Inter Ministerial Task Team on Nigerian Tragedy will be receiving the injured South Africans at Swartkop Airforce base.  The chair of the Task Team, Minister Jeff Radebe with other members will address the media immediately thereafter.

The Inter-Ministerial Task Team on the Nigeria tragedy led by Minister Jeff Radebe will be receiving the patients that were injured during the collapse of a building at the Synagogue Church of All Nations in Lagos, Nigeria.

We are aware that this is a difficult period of uncertainty for the nation, particularly for the families, friends and colleagues of those directly affected.

This statement serves as an update on the situation following the collapse of a building at the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) in Lagos, Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Government has already announced, as instructed by President Zuma, that our disaster management processes and mechanisms have been activated; that an inter-departmental team has been put together and that the NATJOINTS has also been activated to provide technical assistance and support to the victims and their families.

The Minister of Communications, Ms Faith Muthambi will on Friday, 19 September 2014 officially close the Thusong Service Centre Week at Botshabelo Thusong Service Centre in Free State province.

The campaign ran from Monday, 15th and was launched by Minister Muthambi at the Mamelodi Thusong Service Centre. The objective was to heighten communication on the achievements of the Thusong Service Programme and it forms part of Public Service Month.

The Deputy Minister of Communications, Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams will on Thursday 18 September 2014 deliver a speech at the launch of Sanitary Pads Project led by Proudly South African in Partnership with Sun International and Proctor and Gamble (P&G). Almost nine million young South African girls aged between 13 – 19 miss up to a week of school due to the fact that they cannot afford sanitary products.
