Government welcomes the palm ridge high court sentencing of Nathaniel Mpoku for the kidnap and murder of 3-year-old Cuburne van Wyk.
Mpoku was sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering van Wyk and a further 10 years for kidnapping. The sentences will run concurrently.

On Tuesday, 11 August, President Jacob Zuma will brief the media on progress made since the delivery of the 2015 State of the Nation Address. He will focus primarily on the Nine Point Plan to boost economic growth and jobs that he announced at the SoNA. The briefing will be held at Union Buildings in Pretoria. Further details will be communicated through a media advisory during the week.

On Tuesday, 04 August at 10h00, The Statistician-General, Pali Lehohla will release the Tourism annual report. The report contains statistics on the number of travellers, including tourists, who arrive through South African ports of entry during 2014. President Jacob Zuma will release South Africa’s first Status of Women Report as part of the Women’s Day celebration on 9th of August at Sasolburg, Free State. This year’s Women’s Month is taking place against the backdrop of the 60th anniversary of the Freedom Charter and the Women’s Charter in 2014. To commemorate these historic events more than 20 000 women spanning across the provinces will participate at a rally in Free State under the theme: “Women united in moving South Africa forward.”

1. Key Cabinet decisions
1.1. Cabinet approved the plans to set up the Operation Phakisa Mining Lab, which will identify a set of concrete problems that are limiting the growth and developmental impact of the sector. The Mining Lab will also collaboratively develop plans to overcome these challenges. A four-week Mining Lab is scheduled for October 2015.
