1. Implementation of Key Government Programmes
1.1. Cabinet supports the initiatives announced by Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene in the Medium Term Budget Policy Statement. These initiatives will guide the economy through times of slower global economic growth and volatility.

Government has noted the article in the Sunday newspaper reporting on a transcript suggesting police “grapple with how to spin the anti-crime drive Operation Fiela to avoid criticism of the way it targeted foreigners”. The Inter-ministerial Committee (IMC) on Migration leading the work of Operation Fiela – Reclaim re-iterates the purpose of Operation Fiela Reclaim.

Government condemns the attack on the two couples, which resulted in one of the women being raped and the two men killed and thrown into the nearby lake. The attack by the gang of 12 men happened at the Rhodes Park in Kensington on Saturday evening whilst the couples were walking in the Park.

As South Africa commemorates the month of October as Transport Month, government calls on all road-users to exercise caution on the roads and obey traffic rules. Under the theme ‘Together we move South Africa forward’, road safety continues to remain one of the government’s priorities.
Government is aware that road accidents take a massive toll on society and calls on road users including pedestrians to be more vigilant as the festive season approaches.

Government has noted with great sadness recent media coverage on crimes against children, with the most recent incident being that of an eight-year-old girl who was found in a river in Mamelodi with her hands and legs tied together.

Government commends all citizens for promoting and embracing the diversified unique culture during Heritage Month 2015.
Government adopted the Heritage Month campaign as a vehicle to promote social cohesion and develop a common national identity. The theme for this year focused on celebrating indigenous knowledge, identifying, promoting and preserving South Africa’s living heritage.

The Minister of Communications, Ms Faith Muthambi will host a SADC Thank You Dinner to honour South African winners of the 2015 Competition. The awards aim to recognize excellence in journalism in the area of print, photojournalism, television and radio as well as to encourage media practitioners in member states to cover issues pertaining to the region for the promotion of regional integration and cooperation.
