Members of the media are invited to a technical briefing on media arrangements for the SA Investment Conference 2019 to be held in Sandton, Johannesburg from 5 – 7 November 2019.

Please note that only the media that has collected its accreditation on the 3rd Nov will be accommodated at the briefing.

All media Accreditation can be collected from the IDC Auditorium: 19 Freedman Drive, Sandton on Sunday, 3 November 2019 from 08h30 until 17h30.

JCPS Cluster visit Manguzi border post: 1 Nov

Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster (JCPS) ministers will visit Manguzi border post in KwaZulu-Natal on Friday, 01 November 2019.

This visit is a follow-up, following the visit  that JCPS Cluster ministers held in 2017 where they discovered that Manguzi area and the border line between KwaZulu-Natal and Mozambique was a hive of criminal activities including the smuggling of illicit goods, drugs, vehicle theft, human trafficking and rhino horn poaching.

Government is elated and welcomes the 20 life sentences and 758 years imprisonment handed down to serial rapist and home burglar Bongani Lucky Masuku.

Masuku was part of a gang who raped women and girls while assaulting and robbing other relatives when they embarked on a spree of burglaries over a period of eight years.

Government statement on the commemoration of Black Wednesday

Today marks exactly 42 years since the brutal apartheid regime silenced independent voices by closing certain publications. That action gave rise to what is today commonly known as “Black Wednesday”.

On Wednesday 19 October 1977 the Apartheid Regime showed its contempt for freedom of expression and media freedom when it banned The World, Weekend World as well as other publications and arrested Percy Qoboza who was the editor of The World and various other black consciousness activists.

The UN High Commission for refugees in Cape Town sit-in

Government notes the sit-in by people alleged to be foreign nationals at the offices of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees in Cape Town. It is also noted that the Western Cape Refugee and Migrant Forum has distanced itself from this sit-down.

South Africa is a signatory to international instruments which form part of Public International Law, and these international instruments have also been incorporated into our domestic law by the Refugees Act.
