As South Africa commemorates 30 years of freedom and democracy, the government, led by the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Gayton Mackenzie and Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Angie Motshekga will receive the remains of 49 former liberation fighters who passed away in exile in Zimbabwe and Zambia. These remains are set to arrive at Waterkloof Air Force Base in Pretoria on the 25th of September 2024.

Government wishes to update on the road closures which were as a result of heavy snowfall that affected the provinces of Gauteng, Free State, Mpumalanga, Kwa Zulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape. Most of the roads have been cleared of snow and motorists who were trapped have been rescued and mop up operations are continuing. Government is advising against any travel on these roads.

Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Mr Kenny Morolong, will deliver the keynote address at the College of Africa's Graduation Ceremony on Friday, 20 September 2024.

This ceremony will celebrate students who benefited from the Brand South Africa "Covid-19 Tertiary Bursaries" scheme, which forms part of the "Play Your Part" programme.

Government welcomes the decision by the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) to lower the repo rate by 25 basis points, thus shifting the prime lending rate to 11.5%. The cut provides much-needed relief to businesses and households as the economy continues to recover from recent challenges.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has declared a Special Official Funeral, Category 2 for the late former Minister Pravin Gordhan who passed away in the early hours of Friday, 13 September 2024, at the age of 75, following a period of illness.

The Special Official Funeral service will take place at Durban International Convention Center (ICC) on Thursday, 19 September 2024.
