Cabinet will set the national agenda at its annual January Lekgotla – the most important strategic planning session of the National Executive, at Bela Bela in Limpopo from Tuesday, 17 January to Friday, 20 January 2012.
The meeting, which will provide the basis for President Jacob Zuma’s State of the Nation Address on 9 February, will give direction to Government’s programme for 2012.
19 January 2012
The Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Ms Lindiwe Sisulu, will create an opportunity for media to put questions to her about the involvement of members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) in the recent Operation Festive Season crime-fighting initiative.
Minister Sisulu is currently engaged in the Cabinet Lekgotla at Bela Bela and is aware that media have enquired about the role of the SANDF alongside the police in crime-fighting.
20 January 2012
Cabinet has concluded a successful four-day, extended Cabinet Lekgotla in which we conducted a mid-term review and charted the way forward in pursuit of the goal of building a more prosperous, united and equal South Africa.
The Lekgotla deliberations have provided the basis for President Jacob Zuma's State of the Nation Address on February 9, 2012.
In broad terms, our deliberations focused on the Mid-Term Review, the economic situation and progress on the Presidential Infrastructure Coordinating Commission (PICC).
27 February 2012
Government called a meeting with key stakeholders from organised foreign and local electronic and print media in Pretoria today. The meeting was part of government’s stakeholder engagement processes, held in the spirit of working together.
The character of the meeting was very positive. There was agreement and a meeting of minds on concerns about former President Nelson Mandela. All parties acknowledged that Madiba is indeed a persona of national interest and a global icon.

Government has noted the parliamentary question posed by the Democratic Alliance regarding travelling expenses of government officials to Bloemfontein in December 2011 and January 2012.
Government would like to place on record that it is committed to responding to parliamentary questions as these are an important and necessary tool for Parliament to execute its oversight role as well as for keeping the general public informed about government's programmes and processes in a transparent manner.
