South African government consultation with religious leaders from NICSA and NRSDA on the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project

Consultations on the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project (GFIP) continued on Friday 13 July when the Inter-Ministerial Committee on the GFIP led by Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe, met with religious leaders representing the National Interfaith Council of SA (NICSA) and the National Religious Association for Social Development (NRSDA) at the Union Buildings.

Government conveys condolences to victims of train and truck crash


13 June

Government conveys its condolences to the families that have lost their loved ones in a tragic accident between a train and a truck in Mpumalanga on 13 June.

Cabinet spokesperson Jimmy Manyi said, “Government is deeply saddened by this incident. One death is one too many. Our prayers and thoughts are with families of the farmworkers who were in a truck that collided with a goods train at a level crossing between Hectorspruit and Malalane. We also wish the people who were injured in this accident a speedy recovery”.

Government appalled by Zapiro Mail & Guardian cartoon

Government is appalled by Zapiro’s disparaging and repulsive cartoon in the July 6 to 12 2012 edition of the Mail & Guardian.

The cartoon is a defamatory attack on President Jacob Zuma’s character and violates the President’s right to dignity as enshrined in the Constitution. It is disappointing that the Mail & Guardian published such a demeaning cartoon, especially following the recent debate about another offensive artwork.

The Inter-Ministerial Committee on the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project (GFIP) led by Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe, on Monday 25 June 2012, met with religous leaders under the auspices of the South African Council of Churches (SACC). The meeting held at Khotso House, Johannesburg was part of the consultative process on the GFIP.
