The Inter-Ministerial Committee on the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project (GFIP), which is chaired by Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe, is today meeting the leadership of Cosatu as part of stakeholder consultations on the GFIP. This is a follow-up to the meeting held in July.

Cabinet held its ordinary meeting in Pretoria on 4 September 2012.
Cabinet approved the report on shale gas exploration submitted by Minister of Mineral Resources from the technical task team convened last year. This is after the department imposed a moratorium on applications for exploration for shale gas in the Karoo.

The Ministry in the Presidency for Performance Monitoring and Evaluation wish to announce the expiry of the contract for the Chief Executive Officer of the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) and Cabinet Spokesperson, Mr Jimmy Manyi. Mr Manyi left his position on the 25 August 2012, after serving his full three year contract.

Government has noted that some members of the media have been asking departments to provide information concerning their involvement or financial contribution to the Nkandla Development Project.
The 2011/2012 financial year has been completed and government departments are in the process of finalizing their Annual Reports. Information concerning any project undertaken by departments and budget expenditure will be outlined in these reports.
