On the eve of the annual Nelson Mandela International Day held on 18 July, government encourages all South Africans to uphold the ideals of the father of our nation, former President Nelson Mandela. This year, Mandela Day comes at a time when the world is faced with the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

1. Update on Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19)
Cabinet received a status report from the National Coronavirus Command Council. It comprised submissions and recommendations from the Ministerial Advisory Council on Coronavirus and the National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (Natjoint).

Government wishes to update the nation on the arrangement for the Special Official Funeral of the late Regent of the Royal House of the amaRharhabe, Her Majesty Queen Noloyiso Sandile who passed away on the 8th of July 2020.
1. Burial and Funeral service
Her Majesty will be buried on Sunday, 12 July 2020 at Mngqesha Great Place, King William’s Town at 07h00. This will be followed by a funeral service at 08h00.

Government notes the content of a poster circulating on social media which seeks to sow discord amongst South Africans and foreign nationals living together in communities.
Government strongly condemns the violence that is mooted and calls on all South Africans to desist from any actions that go against the laws of the country.

Government welcomes the judgements by the Gauteng and Western Cape High Courts that dismissed both challenges related to the Disaster Management Act and its regulations.
The Western Cape High Court dismissed an application that sought to challenge the constitutionality of the National Coronavirus Command Council as a subcommittee of Cabinet.

Government has noted with concern media statements attributed to the British American Tobacco South Africa (BATSA) to the effect that government has caused a delay in the hearing of its challenge to the ban on sales of tobacco products during Alert Level 3 of the Covid-19 national state of disaster.
