Government welcomes the Quarterly Labour Force Survey results which show that despite an increase in the rate of unemployment, there was also an increase in the number of employed persons. The number of employed persons increased by 258 000 to 16,2 million in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the fourth quarter of 2022. The increase in the first quarter of 2023 marks the sixth consecutive increase on quarterly basis, inching closer to pre-COVID levels when the number of employed people was 16,4 million.

Minister in The Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni will table the Government Communication and Information System’s (GCIS) 2023/24 Budget Vote to the National Assembly today, Tuesday 16 May 2023.

The Budget Vote will outline plans and priorities for the GCIS for this financial year.

The government extends its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Athule Mazula, a young, bright and optimistic journalist.

Mazula was a community media worker at Cape Town TV and worked closely with the Cape Town Daily News at the time of her death. Community media is essential in providing community oriented content that is diverse and serves communities in rural areas and small towns.
