Government rejects any form of criticism that implies Ministers should not enjoy their democratic right to choose whether or not to receive treatment from a public healthcare facility. South Africans are reminded that every citizen has a democratic right to freedom of choice, which also includes the choice of going either to a public or private healthcare facility.

Government has noted with concern incidents of corporal punishment at some schools as reported in the media.
GCIS Acting CEO, Phumla Williams says "whilst Government acknowledges the need to discipline children in order to encourage positive and responsible behaviour, such discipline must be done in a constructive manner and within the confines of the law. Teachers are encouraged to find ways to instil self-discipline amongst leaners without resorting to physical, emotional or psychological punishment.

Government conveys its deepest condolences to the families and friends of commuters that were killed in the dreadful bus accident on the N1 near De Doorns, Western Cape.
According to media reports, the bus crashed down an embankment in the Hex River Valley, injuring scores of passengers.
