The Free State Executive Council has pledged to support and strengthen performance monitoring and evaluation in the provincial administration following a meeting with the Deputy Minister of Performance Monitoring and Evaluation in the Presidency, Ms Dina Pule MP, today in Bloemfontein.

The meeting was held to introduce the Deputy Minister to the Provincial Executive Council and Heads of Department. The Deputy Minister made a presentation on the role of the Department of Performance Monitoring and Evaluation in the Presidency.

Today Deputy Minister Dina Pule met with the Executive Council of the Eastern Cape as part of the provincial visits she undertook since the beginning of March this year. 

She communicated the role of the Performance Monitoring and Evaluation Department in the Presidency, explained the reporting process to be followed and spoke about the new tool kit to be used for monitoring purposes.

Government communicators meeting in Pretoria today, 24 March 2011, deliberated on a number of issues concerning their work, particularly in view of the need to jack up their function in support of the work of government as the beginning of a new financial year (2011-2012) approaches.

Minister in The Presidency, Collins Chabane has noted repeated calls in the media calling for the removal of Mr Jimmy Manyi from his position. This follows statements he made last year which had implications on the country’s race relations. Mr Manyi has since apologised for his statements and for the offence they have caused.

Certain Cabinet Ministers' offices have yesterday received enquiries from the media asking whether their Ministers have been to the Gupta family’s house or know of any Ministers who have been.

Government views these questions as an irresponsible fishing expedition that amounts to the violation of the privacy of Ministers. Also, we find it highly irresponsible and beyond the scope of the media’s role to monitor the private movement of Ministers. We do not have to elaborate on the security implications of this behaviour.

Government has noted a front page article in the Sunday Independent, 20 February 2011 edition, reporting about a supposed “clash” between Transport Minister S’bu Ndebele and Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane “over toll charges”.

Government would like to put it on record that there is no clash between Minister Ndebele and Premier Mokonyane – or any other clash within the leadership of government – about the soon-to-be-launched tollgate system in Gauteng.
