Minister in The Presidency for Performance Monitoring, Evaluation as well as Administration, Collins Chabane, will devote 67 Minutes of service at Isizwe Setjhaba Secondary School in Vereeniging as part of Mandela Day.

The overarching objective of Mandela Day is to inspire individuals to take action to help change the world for the better, and in doing so build a global movement for good.
Minister Chabane will on this day which is also the birthday of former President Nelson Mandela, visit the school in Vaal Triangle.

Government welcomes the North Gauteng High Court’s sentencing of Johan Kotze, dubbed the ‘Modimolle Monster’, who received two life sentences and 25 years imprisonment.
This comprises a life sentence for the murder of Conrad Bonnette, and another for raping his former wife Ina Bonnette. He was also sentenced to 25-years for the kidnaping and assault of Ina Bonnette.

On 26 June 2013 Cabinet approved the submission of the SADC Protocol on Trade in Services to Parliament for ratification, in accordance with section 231 of the Constitution.

The SADC Protocol sets out a framework for the liberalisation of trade in services between SADC member states and serves as a basis for negotiations.

Government is outraged and concerned at yet another report of rape - this time an 11-year-old girl was allegedly throttled, then stabbed and raped as her four-year-old brother looked on.  Abuse and rape seems to have become a norm in our country and will not be tolerated.

Acting GCIS CEO, Phumla Williams said, “We strongly demand that justice is served not only in this case but to the epidemic of sexual violence”.

Government condemns rape and child abuse

Cabinet has noted with concern the recent increase at the brutal manner of the crimes perpetrated against women and children. Cabinet condemns in the strongest term the abuse of women and children. The public is called upon to work with the law enforcement agencies in routing out this crime.

Government expresses its appreciation to all South Africans for their prayers and well-wishes for former President Nelson Mandela, and also commends the domestic media for the sensitivity shown whilst covering his stay at hospital. 

Government has been touched by the flood of well wishes and prayers that have been offered at the Pretoria Heart Hospital. The public response has reflected the emotional mood of a country whose identity is so closely linked to the father of the nation.

Government is saddened and outraged at the brutal killing of Duduzile Zozo in Thokoza which was reportedly based on her sexual orientation, and conveys its deepest condolences to her family. Government urges South Africans to, in their everyday conduct give expression to the Constitution. The Bill of Rights of our Constitution recognizes and guarantees equality. This fundamental right enjoins South Africans not to discriminate against anyone on several grounds, including gender, sex and sexual orientation.
