The Government Communication and Information System will host a webinar to commemorate the 45th Anniversary of Black Wednesday.
The panel members include, GCIS Director General, Phumla Williams, Deputy Editor of the Sowetan , Nwabisa Makunga, Consultant and former UNESCO Director: Strategies and Polices in the field of Communication and Information, Guy Berger and Arena Holdings, National Sales Manager, Public and Private Sector, Tiny Koaho.
Black Wednesday marks a period to have important discussions on media freedom and strides made since, Wednesday, 19 October 1977 when The World and Weekend Word Newspapers were banned as part of the media suppression by the Apartheid regime.
The webinar seeks to achieve the following objectives:
- Reflection on the current state of media freedom in South Africa
- Highlighting the intersection between media freedom and democracy
- Unpacking media convergence and sustainability
