Media statement on further details regarding the funeral service of the late Minister Jackson Mthembu.

Government informs South Africans and the world on the details of the funeral service for the late Minister in the Presidency, Jackson Mphikwa Mthembu.

Minister Mthembu passed away on Thursday, 21 January 2021, from COVID-related complications. President Ramaphosa announced that the Minister will be honoured with an Official Funeral Category 1.

  1. Funeral service and broadcast

As previously announced, the funeral service of Minister Mthembu will take place on Sunday, 24 January 2021 starting from 09h00. The service will take place at the Roman Catholic Church near his home at Ackerville Township, Emalahleni in Mpumalanga. The Minister will be laid to rest at Old Pretoria Road Cemetery in Emalahleni.

Due to the COVID-19 Alert Level 3 regulations currently in place, attendance of the funeral service will be limited to 50 people.

Government wishes to advise mourners including members of the media to follow the proceedings through the live broadcast provided by the SABC and other major broadcast channels. In addition, provision has been made to stream the service live on the following government platforms:
