Inter-Ministerial Committee on State Funerals updates on arrangements for memorial and funeral of the late Minister Edna Molewa

The Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) on State Funerals met on the 1st of October 2018 and deliberated on arrangements for the memorial, funeral service and burial of Dr Edna Molewa.

The IMC noted that preparations are at an advanced stage and wishes to update the country as follows:  

The Official Memorial Service for Minister Molewa will be held on Wednesday, 03 October 2018 at the Tshwane Events Centre, Hall J at 10h00. Minister of Higher Education and Training , Naledi Pandor will deliver the keynote address at the memorial service and  there will be tributes from family, friends and representatives from the environment sector.

The Official Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, 06 October 2018 from 08h00 at Tshwane Events Center Hall J and proceed to Zandfontein Cemetery in Pretoria West. The memorial and funeral service will be open to members of the public.

Members of the public are further encouraged to continue to sign the condolence books available at the following points:

Condolence books have been placed at:

  • The Molewa family residence;
  • The Union Buildings;
  • Department of Environmental Affairs Offices in Pretoria and Cape Town;
  • Premiers’ office in all provinces;
  • Sefako Makgatho University;
  • Vaal University of Technology;
  • South African National Parks;
  • South African National Biodiversity Institute;
  • South African Weather Service
