Government on media arrangements for official memorial service of King Goodwill Zwelithini Kabhekuzulu

President Ramaphosa has accorded King Goodwill Zwelithini KaBhekuzulu a Special Official Funeral Category 1 status which includes elements of military honors. 

The logistical arrangements for the media pertaining to the official memorial services are as outlined below.  

1. Memorial service

The official memorial service will take place at the KwaKhethaomthandayo Royal Palace in Nongoma on Thursday, 18 March 2021 starting at 10:00am. 

2. Media accreditation

Only media providing pool feed will accredited.

All accredited media need to ensure that they have the following when attending the official memorial service:
ID document;
A media card;
In terms of foreign journalists, the following is required:
Identification/ passport; 

3. Live Broadcast and Pool Feed:

In accordance with the COVID-19 Alert Level 1 Regulations currently in place which prescribe that attendance at a funeral is only for a limited number.  

To accommodate mourners who may not be able to attend the memorial service physically, government wishes to advise that the funeral service will broadcast live on the SABC and other major broadcast channels.  In addition, arrangements have been made for both services to be streamed live on the following government online platforms:

Members of the media who wish to cover the funeral are advised that the SABC will provide pool feed:

4. Camera positions

Still photographers and multi-media journalists have been allocated space in and around the venue for the memorial service.
