Government on funeral arrangements of Dr Zola Skweyiya

The Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) on State Funerals met on the 19th of April 2018 and deliberated on arrangements for the funeral service and burial of Dr Zola Skweyiya. The IMC noted that preparations are at an advanced stage and wishes to update the country as follows:  

Dr Zola Skweyiya will be laid to his final resting place on Saturday, 21st April 2018 at the Pretoria East Cemetery.  The funeral service will be held at the Christian Revival Church (CRC), situated at the corner of Lynnwood and Solomon Mahlangu Roads in Pretoria. The official programme will start at 08h30.  All who wish to bid farewell to Dr Skweyiya are welcome to attend.

The IMC wishes to thank all those who attended the memorial service at the Tshwane Events Centre on Wednesday as well as those who took time to send messages of condolence to the Skweyiya and Mazibuko families. 

Members of the public are further encouraged to continue to sign the condolence books available at the following points:

  • DIRCO Head Office at the OR Tambo Building in Pretoria
  • Parliament
  • Tuynhuys
  • The Union Buildings
  • Department of Social Development
  • Department of Communication
  • All Provincial Legislatures
  • All Premier’s Offices

President Cyril Ramaphosa has accorded Dr Skweyiya a Special Official Funeral Category 1 which includes military honours. Since the President issued the declaration, South African flags across the country and abroad have been flying in a half-mast position as a sign that the country is in a mourning state.
