Government congratulates the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries for winning a Standard Bank Top Women Award in the category of Top Gender Empowered Government Departments. The department’s win was announced at the gala dinner event at Emperors Palace on Thursday, 18 August.

The prestigious award goes to the government department that clearly and effectively demonstrates the highest level of gender empowerment, from staff to suppliers, through its programmes and policies.

GCIS Acting Director-General, Donald Liphoko, said, “The department has done South Africa proud and has demonstrated government’s strides in serving its citizens with the outmost dedication. This further encourages both the public and private sector to remain committed in working towards the success and empowerment of women in our country”.

As part of the department’s strategic objectives and goals, the promotion of women empowerment and gender equality through its policies and programmes has always been a priority. DAFF has implemented various internal training programmes that have successfully equipped 1166 women employees with requisite skills from developmental programmes, management courses as well as short courses. This accounts for 20% of total staff,” said Liphoko.
