Government wishes to congratulate South African National Editors’ Forum (SANEF), Executive Director, Mathatha Tsedu, for receiving an honorary doctorate from the University of the Western Cape. On Friday the university awarded Mr Tsedu a PhD in Arts in recognition of the role he played in efforts to transform the media in a democratic South Africa.

Acting Director General, Donald Liphoko, said, “Mr Tsedu in his role as a member and a Director of SANEF has played a crucial role in ensuring that relations between government and the media remain intact. This, in turn, contributes immensely to nation building and active participation of the citizens in the democratic dispensation”.

Through the annual engagement platforms between SANEF and government Mr Tsedu has consistently shown an understanding of the importance of the inter-dependence of the two institutions. His views have always been reconciliatory, understanding the need for the two to work together for the benefit of the country.

“Government will continue to ensure that media freedom that Mr Tsedu is always fighting for, is upheld as enshrined in the Constitution”, Liphoko said.
