Media accreditation for the special official funeral of Dr Joseph Shabalala

Members of the media who wish to cover the funeral service of the late Dr Joseph Shabalala are advised to apply for accreditation before the deadline of Thursday, 20 February 2020.

Dr Shabalala, who is the founder of the choral music group Ladysmith Black Mambazo passed away on the 11th of February 2020.  President Ramaphosa has since declared that Dr Shabalala will be honored with a Special Official Funeral Category 2 which entails ceremonial elements provided by the South African Police Service. 

The President further directed that the national flag shall fly at half-mast at every flag station in the country until he is laid to rest.

The Special Official Funeral of Dr Shabalala will take place on Saturday, 22 February 2020 at the Ladysmith Indoor Sports Center at 8h30.

Media applying for accreditation to cover the funeral are to complete the attached accreditation form in full and submit it to ignicious@gcis.gov.za  or msawakhe@gcis.gov.za
