Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Mr Kenny Morolong will deliver the keynote address at the Unitra Community Radio 30th anniversary.
The celebration forms part of the broader Milestones of Freedom Campaign, launched by President Ramaphosa in June 2026. which reflects on South Africa's democratic journey and recognises institutions that have contributed to empowering communities through access to information, education and civic participation.
One of the key milestones of freedom that South Africa is celebrating this year is the 30th anniversary of the Constitution. Included in the Constitution is the Bill of Rights which advocates for freedom of expression, among others. This is what allows the community media sector to grow and become a source of empowerment for communities at grassroots level through story-telling, information sharing and content creation.
Unitra's journey of three decades of community broadcasting is a significant milestones that demonstrates the resilience of our democracy.
Since its establishment, Unitra Community Radio has played a significant role in providing a platform for local voices, promoting social cohesion, supporting development initiatives and strengthening democracy through community-centred broadcasting.
