Government extends its deepest condolences to the families and friends who lost their loved ones during the recent floods in KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga provinces, and noted with dismay the extensive damage caused.

Provincial Governments and municipalities are working around the clock to ensure that the victims are provided with humanitarian relief to the affected households.

Disaster management committees of the affected provinces continue to urge members of the communities to be cautious, and not dwell near river banks and low-lying areas.

GCIS Acting CEO, Phumla Williams said “Government thanks the emergency services for their quick response to the situation and those community members and disaster relief organisations that have assisted in bringing about relief to the affected communities. We call for more support from other role players”.

Government will intensify its efforts to find those that are reported to be still missing, and provide continuous assistance to those affected.
