Updating of Government's Programme of Action

12 October 2004

12 October 2004

In response to enquiries from the media arising out of Democratic Alliance claims that government is falling behind on delivery deadlines regarding implementation of the Programme of Action, Government wishes to reiterate what is already in the public domain concerning the process of updating the Programme of Action on the web-site.

This is done every two months in line with the cycle of reporting by clusters to Cabinet. The last update, as indicated on the website, was on 24 August. Cabinet will be receiving the second set of reports at its next meeting and the website will be updated as soon as possible after that. This will coincide with briefings to the media by the Clusters during the week starting 25 October.

Progress regarding deadlines that fall during months like September, which is between two reporting periods, is naturally only reflected in the website report a month after they have passed. However, as media are aware, queries on these issues can be directed at the relevant Cluster or department.

If in the past the public were unable to check the accuracy of DA statements on the government's Programme of Action, they are now able to verify the situation for themselves on the website or by calling relevant departments. Clearly the "discovery" by the DA was not made by anyone else because other citizens, including in the media, understand the process better and are not as ill-informed.
