Monitoring & evaluation of Government's Programme of Action

26 October 2004

26 October 2004

Government's Programme of Action on the government website (www.gov.za) has been updated following the completion on 20 October of the second cycle of reporting by Clusters of Departments to Cabinet on implementation of the programme.

As a further aspect of the Monitoring & Evaluation of government's programme, the Ministers co-ordinating the Clusters will brief the media on Wednesday and Thursday, 27-28 October, on the progress made since the last update at the end of August and on activities whose timeframes will be reached in the next month or so.

The GCIS, working with The Presidency, intends to publish updated information on implementation of the programme immediately after Cluster reports on progress have gone to Cabinet, at two-monthly intervals. In addition as particular timeframes are reached there will be public communication by relevant departments and Clusters on details of the programmes concerned.

These measures, not undertaken by any other government of which we are aware will, as the President stated in the debate on The Presidency's Budget, enable the public to follow progress in implementing the Programme of Action and ensure that South Africans take active part both in the monitoring and evaluation of government work and in changing their lives for the better.
