Government's response to SAHRC report

In response to queries regarding the report of the South African Human Rights Commission on socio-economic rights, government wishes to draw attention to the following summary of progress in the implementation of its programmes:

Freedom has brought progress

The figures for the changing proportion of households having access to services are from Statistics South Africa (from the October Household Surveys for 1995 and 1998 and the Labour Force Survey for 2000).

The other figures, showing the output of government programmes, are based on annual reports of implementation from departments
