Government condemns the brutal and inhumane acts committed against Mr Mido Macia allegedly by members of the South African Police Services in Daveyton. The case against the members of SAPS who are involved in this incident is currently being investigated by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID).

Phumla Williams, Acting GCIS CEO said, “Government expresses its deepest condolences to the victim’s family, friends and community. No acts of abuse and crime will be tolerated in our country. We are confident that IPID will conduct an independent and impartial investigation, and that the wheels of justice will turn in all abuse and criminal cases. We are aware that SAPS is also conducting an internal investigation.”

Government assures South Africans that SAPS officials subscribe to a code of conduct and that their main objective is to achieve a safe and secure environment for all South Africans to live in. If SAPS officials are found to be in violation of the code of conduct, they will be dealt with accordingly.

The Justice, Crime Prevention, Safety and Security Cluster is committed to ensuring that all South Africans are and feel safe. South Africans are urged to take up the fight against crime by reporting all incidents.
