The Director-General (DG) is the Accounting Officer as prescribed by the Public Finance Management Act of 1999 responsible for the GCIS’ establishment. The DG is further responsible for:
- providing leadership in the development of generic communication strategies across government’s national departments
- ensuring integration and coherence of communication within national government and across all spheres of government and standard performance
- serving as a spokesperson of Cabinet and government
- providing strategic leadership to the media diversity and development initiatives and ensure the implementation of development communication.
