Qualifications
in public service communication
As mandated
by the GCIS and as stated in the 1999 GCIS SGB Brief to SAQA, the
Government Communication Standards Generating Body has developed
the attached standards for public knowledge and comment by government
communication officers and interested parties (stakeholders).
The qualifications are:
1. Higher Certificate in Public Service Communication

The qualifications are still awaiting certain unit standards from
some SGBs before thay can be said to be complete, and marketed to
tertiary institutions to start training communicators who want to
serve government. But, any willing service provider can make use
of the unit standards that have been developed and are in the qualifications
to capacitate communicators.
The GCIS SGB, which has now completed its term of office, is hoping
that the remaining standards will be ready for inclusion into the
qualifications during the course of 2004. Immediately that happens,
the qualifications will be marketed to service providers.
