GCIS recognises right of people to attend meetings

19 February 2003

19 February 2003

In response to media enquiries regarding access to the Parliamentary Media Briefings, GCIS would like to affirm that these briefings are arranged for the media and members of the Diplomatic Corps.

The Media Briefing Week is an opportunity for Government to explain its programme of action for the year, as outlined in the President's State of the Nation Address, to the media and the diplomatic community and for the media to obtain clarity from the executive on the issues involved.

Once the invitees are seated, and if there is space, we do allow interest groups to attend, on condition that they respect the rules guiding the briefings. Only the media are allowed to ask questions.
