Requirements:
- Qualification:
- An appropriate three-year degree or equivalent qualification in Journalism
- An appropriate three-year degree or equivalent qualification in Journalism
- Experience:
- Proven track-record as a sub-editor in a mainstream print media publication;
- Managerial experience regarding the management of human and financial resources.
- Job knowledge:
- General knowledge of current affairs, South African government policies and programmes;
- the principles of sub-editing.
- Competencies:
- Excellent sub-editing and proof reading skills;
- an appreciation for the principles of plain language communication;
- good organisational and communication skills;
- ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines;
- the ability to multi-task and manage priorities in a fast-paced environment;
- excellent interpersonal skills;
- a valid driver’s licence.
Duties:
The incumbent will be required to:
- Re-write and edit news stories to suit a print media format;
- ensure a high quality and standard of all content that is published;
- assist in uploading the website (www.buanews.gov.za) regularly with content and pictures;
- assist in managing newsroom processes;
- coach and mentor journalists;
- manage financial resources related to the requirements of the position.
The successful candidate must be willing to work irregular hours, on weekends and on public holidays, when required to do so.

Duties:
The incumbent will be required to:
- Monitoring and content analysis of web-based print and broadcast media with the aim to enhance Government communication.
- Identifying key issues in the communication environment that require Government attention and alerting relevant stakeholders and structures.
- Producing reports and briefs on media coverage of Government and issues affecting Government.
- Quality control of media reports, newspaper cuttings and other related products and services.
- Edit electronic reports three times daily before they are distributed to clients.
- Ensure that the monitoring team adheres to deadlines.
- Monitor the implementation of the business plan and financial administration.

- Personnel evaluation and development.
- The successful candidate will be required to work irregular hours, extra hours and on weekends.
- The successful candidate may also be required to take part in government communication campaigns.
