Directorate: International and Media Liaison
Director
All-inclusive salary package: R540 429 per annum

Requirements:
To be considered for the appointment, the incumbent must be in possession of:
- A three-year degree, or relevant qualification or experience
- Essential knowledge and understanding of the intricacies and broad framework of operation of the South African and international media
- A sound understanding of the Government Communication Cycle, and associated communication activities
- The ability to plan communication activities at short notice
- Sound managerial and budgeting skills
- Good writing and content-development skills.
Duties:
The successful candidate will be required to perform the following duties:
- Manage the Directorate: International and Media Liaison, and the Communication Centre
- Liaise with departments to offer support and advice, and draft responses to media where required, on the basis of daily monitoring of the media and communication environment
- Manage a constructive partnership between government and the media, including regular briefings and interactions
- Manage the relationships between government and foreign correspondents based in South Africa
- Manage and support the communication of the country’s international programme
- Manage international delegation visits in partnership with the Department of Foreign Affairs, with specific focus on communication and/or information
- Manage communication support to the Presidency
- Perform as the main GCIS contact person with International Marketing Council’s Communication Resource Centre
- Provide regular interaction with the GCIS Parliamentary Office, and the management of the GCIS media monitoring unit
- Participate in GCIS communication projects, communication clusters and the GCIS Content Hub
The successful incumbent will be required to sign a performance agreement.

Assistant Director: Regional Support Administrator
All-inclusive salary package: R221 565 per annum
Commencing salary: R157 686 per annum

Requirements:
To be considered for the appointment, the incumbent must be in possession of:
- A relevant academic IT qualification or equivalent, supported by an MCSA or MCSE
- Three to five years relevant IT hardware and software experience, of which at least two years' should be hands-on experience in desktop and server support in a Microsoft Windows environment
- General networking, TCP/IP and DNS experience, with some knowledge of interfacing with UNIX and Macintosh platforms
- Good interpersonal skills, and the ability to work well within a team and independently
- Good problem-solving, communication and documentation skills
- Ability to plan and manage his/her required regional schedules effectively
- An understanding of remote support tools will be advantageous
- Exposure to Open Source Software and security tools will be an added advantage
- A valid code 8 driver’s licence is essential, as this post involves extensive travelling
- The successful applicant will be based in Pretoria, servicing the regional offices.
Duties:
The successful candidate will be required to perform the following duties:
- Provide general and specialised support for all desktops, servers and network equipment in GCIS, primarily at the regional offices and Thusong Service Centres
- Setup and configure of dial-up connectivity (support of dial-up internet users)
- Assist with the installation, testing and maintenance of server hardware and software, including applying patches and software upgrades
- Assist with the disaster-recovery and planning process in the regions, and with the maintenance, monitoring and implementation of appropriate security measures, including anti-virus servers and security applications
- Work with the Helpdesk, providing specialist desktop support at Head Office, and assistance to other IT staff.
- Maintain an updated IT asset database of the regions
- Provide assistance and support on video collaboration systems
- Maintain good working relationships with vendors and service providers, while monitoring service level agreements.
