Biography
of Terry Vandayar

Terry Vandayar was born in Durban in 1965 and matriculated in 1983. After studying for a National Diploma in Electrical Engineering at the ML Sultan Technikon he moved to Johannesburg in 1987 to start his career in information technology (IT).
His career in IT in the private sector spans across the IT services, financial, and cellular telecoms industries. His career development and focus was initially in IT services and infrastructure support. He completed the Management Advancement Programme at Wits Business School when he moved into management of IT services and delivery.
In his career he has enjoyed exposure and growth in companies like Unisys SA; Nedcor Bank Ltd; National Data Systems (now Bytes Technology Group) and Vodacom.
He joined the Public Service in January 2001 as the Director: IT. In January 2002 he was promoted to Chief Information Officer (CIO). As a Government IT Officer (GITO) he is a member of the GITO Council and is involved with IT related initiatives across government.
Terry lives in Johannesburg and is married with two sons. He has 20 years of IT experience of which the last six has been in government.
